Employability

Looking for talent?

ElevateHer is Women in Travel CIC’s Employability Programme focussed on underserved female talent.

We partner with employers to support groups of 10-15 underserved women through mentoring, upskilling, networking, access to work and income.

The women we support either self-refer through word of mouth or are referred by charities we partner with. They often face multiple barriers,  be it refugees and asylum seekers, survivors of slavery, gender-based violence and long-term unemployment, which is why they are remote from the job market.

They are also talented, motivated and often highly qualified which is the reason why we want them to stay in our great industry!

Travel, Tourism and Hospitality talent is becoming increasingly scarce. For a long time, the industry has relied on existing workers to take a large share of the available opportunities but the situation is now changing.

To reflect the greater diversity in the marketplace and amongst our customers, we need a more inclusive and creative approach.

WE CAN HELP by providing access to a pool of skilled individuals from a diverse background who are eager to get back to work.

Benefits

There are multiple benefits to working with our candidates:

  1. You will tap into an otherwise invisible pool, that cannot be accessed through your usual recruitment avenues.
  2. You will build your employer’s brand in the marketplace.
  3. You will foster a more inclusive workplace and greater engagement from your current staff.

How does it work?

We work with a wide range of charities that refer women ready to work. Women self-refer as well – and often their friends too. These women may be out of work for a variety of reasons; personal challenges such as illness or elderly care might have made it difficult for them to hold a job. Others might have recently arrived in the UK. Whatever the reason, before introducing them to employers we will have met them and checked their suitability for work; many will have also been trained and supported depending on their needs.

Once referred, we train, mentor, and support the women providing confidence, upskilling and introductions to employers.

ElevateHer is funded through:

  1. Surplus from our commercial services to industries such as – DEI training, mentoring, female leadership development, allyship, events.
  2.  Sponsorship from industry employers like you.

Participating Employers

  • It’s been a privilege for Google to sponsor and host the Women in Travel Employability Programme. We're delighted to see the incredible progress the programme's first cohort has made and how quickly the training has led to employment or further education. We hope that the new skills and confidence these women have gained will carry with them throughout their careers in travel, hospitality and beyond. Through this partnership and programme with Women in Travel, we can drive meaningful change in DEI for travel and tourism. And, as we look ahead to next year, we hope more of our industry partners will join us on this mission.

  • We are pleased to be working with Women in Travel on their Women Returners programme, which supports the economic empowerment of marginalised women, by providing them with the training and the access needed to return to jobs in hospitality and tourism. Women traditionally sit at the heart of hospitality and we want to encourage those disengaged from the economy to consider a career in the sector

  • The company is growing and with Brexit limiting the volume of foreign talent available to us we must now tap into a more diverse pool. Alessandra’s programme comes just at the right time and we are sure it will more than pay for itself.

  • A fantastic initiative - it helps women get back into employment and gives us a recruitment resource we value highly - a clear win win!
